AminoForge Research-Use-Only (RUO) Compliance Framework
AminoForge sells all products exclusively as Research-Use-Only (RUO) compounds — laboratory reagents intended solely for in vitro research and scientific study by qualified researchers. This page explains what the RUO designation means, the regulatory framework it operates within, the obligations it creates for both AminoForge and our customers, and how we maintain compliance with applicable laws and industry standards.
What Is Research-Use-Only (RUO) Status?
Definition and Regulatory Basis
Research-Use-Only is an FDA-recognized designation for laboratory reagents that have not been evaluated or approved for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical use in humans or animals. Under FDA guidance (21 CFR Part 809 and related guidance documents), RUO products are intended to be used in the research phase of development — before any application for clinical use is made. RUO status does not mean a compound is unapproved for all purposes; it means the specific product is sold for laboratory research applications, not for human or veterinary use. The FDA has articulated that marketing practices — including labeling, promotional materials, and sales channel targeting — determine whether a product is being sold as an RUO reagent or as an unapproved medical product.
What RUO Is Not
RUO status is not a regulatory loophole. It does not permit the sale of compounds for human consumption or self-administration under an RUO label. FDA enforcement guidance makes clear that labeling a product “for research use only” while simultaneously marketing it for human use, providing dosing guidance for humans, or selling to non-researcher populations constitutes misbranding and adulteration under the FD&C Act regardless of the RUO label. The RUO designation is only appropriate — and legally defensible — when the product is genuinely being sold for legitimate scientific research to qualified purchasers.
How AminoForge Maintains RUO Compliance
Marketing and Content Standards
All AminoForge product descriptions, blog content, and marketing materials are written in terms of preclinical research mechanisms, published scientific literature, and laboratory research applications. We do not make therapeutic claims, dosing recommendations for human use, or statements suggesting our products are appropriate for self-administration. Our content references peer-reviewed research literature to provide scientific context — not to imply efficacy or safety for human use. Any reference to clinical studies or human data is presented as context for understanding the science, not as evidence supporting human use of our research compounds.
Customer Qualification
By completing a purchase from AminoForge, customers represent that they are qualified researchers, scientists, or licensed professionals purchasing for legitimate scientific research; that they are at least 21 years of age; that they will use purchased compounds only within a controlled research environment; and that their purchase and intended use comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws. AminoForge does not sell to individuals who represent themselves as purchasing for personal use, self-administration, or human consumption.
No Human-Use Support
AminoForge does not provide guidance on human dosing, administration protocols, or therapeutic applications of any compound we sell. Our customer support team is trained to answer questions about compound chemistry, research applications as documented in published literature, product quality specifications, COA documentation, and order logistics — not to provide medical or dosing advice. Inquiries seeking human-use guidance are declined.
Product Labeling
All AminoForge products are labeled “For Research Use Only — Not for Human or Veterinary Consumption” on product packaging and on every product page. The research use disclaimer is prominently displayed and linked throughout the site. Product SKUs, descriptions, and catalog listings do not use therapeutic language, drug names in a clinical context, or language suggesting consumer health applications.
Quality and Purity Standards
≥99% HPLC Purity
Research integrity requires compound integrity. Every AminoForge compound is verified at ≥99% purity by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) — the analytical gold standard for peptide purity verification. HPLC separates the target compound from synthesis impurities, truncated sequences, oxidation products, and other contaminants, quantifying the target compound as a percentage of total peak area. A ≥99% purity specification means the compound represents at least 99% of the detectable material — a standard consistent with pharmaceutical-grade analytical requirements.
Mass Spectrometry Identity Confirmation
Beyond purity, compound identity must be confirmed. Every AminoForge compound is verified by mass spectrometry — electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) or equivalent — confirming that the measured molecular mass matches the theoretical molecular weight of the target compound within accepted analytical tolerances. This dual verification (HPLC purity + MS identity) is the minimum standard for research-grade compound characterization.
Certificate of Analysis Availability
AminoForge provides downloadable Certificates of Analysis for every compound in our catalog — available before purchase on the COA library page. Our COAs document HPLC purity data, mass spectrometry identity confirmation, lot number, and manufacturing date. We believe COA transparency before purchase is a baseline standard that every research compound supplier should meet — and that researchers should expect.
USA Manufacturing
Many AminoForge compounds are USA manufactured — produced in domestic facilities that operate under quality management systems appropriate for research reagent production. As more compounds are produced in the USA, this list will continue to expand. US manufacturing allows direct oversight of production standards and supply chain integrity, reducing the risk of adulteration, contamination, or substitution that can occur with overseas-sourced compounds.
Researcher Obligations Under RUO Purchase
When you purchase from AminoForge under our RUO framework, you accept the following obligations:
- You are purchasing for legitimate scientific research in a controlled laboratory or research environment
- You will not administer purchased compounds to yourself or any other person or animal
- You will not resell purchased compounds for human consumption or therapeutic use
- You will handle compounds in accordance with appropriate laboratory safety protocols
- You are responsible for ensuring your purchase and use comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws in your jurisdiction
- You will not hold AminoForge liable for any harm, legal consequence, or damage resulting from misuse, improper handling, or unauthorized use of purchased products
For the complete legal disclaimer, see our Research Use Disclaimer page. For questions about what RUO means for your specific research application, see our Research FAQ or contact our support team at support@aminoforge.vegas.
All products sold by AminoForge are intended exclusively for laboratory and research purposes. Not for human or veterinary consumption. Researchers are responsible for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing research compound use in their jurisdiction.
