Mitochondrial Research Series — Cardiolipin-Targeted Tetrapeptide.
SS-31 is a synthetic four-amino acid mitochondria-targeted peptide with the sequence D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂. Also known in the research literature as Elamipretide and MTP-131, SS-31 has been studied for its selective association with cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane and is supplied as a lyophilized powder for research use only.
In published laboratory research, SS-31 has been studied in connection with mitochondrial membrane organization, cardiolipin interactions, electron transport chain function, mitochondrial bioenergetics, reactive oxygen species signaling, and cellular responses to oxidative stress. These findings derive from laboratory and preclinical research models and do not describe or imply any effect, benefit, or use in humans or animals.
Its mitochondrial mechanism is studied alongside related research compounds such as MOTS-C, NAD+, and Epitalon. For a broader review of the published literature, see the SS-31 Research Overview.
